The Our Children Are Sacred project is dedicated to establishing a vital learning center for children in El Salvador, a country where the lack of educational opportunities leaves many youngsters trapped in a cycle of poverty and hardship. Each day, countless children are forced into labor to help support their families, sacrificing their childhood and education in the process. This harsh reality often leads them down a path of unfulfilled potential and missed opportunities, as they navigate life without the fundamental tools necessary for a successful future. For those who are forcibly displaced and return to El Salvador with their deported parents, the struggle is even more profound, as they face not only the challenge of reintegration but also the emotional scars of leaving behind a life they barely remember.
Sadly, the consequences of deportation, apart from affecting children psychologically, also come accompanied by violence, where many have lost their lives, it is devastating. Tragically, more than 2,000 U.S. citizen youth have lost their lives due to violence , an alarming statistic that underscores the dangers faced by children in vulnerable situations when they are forced to migrate to a country they don't know and in many cases they don't speak proper Spanish.
Additionally, over 2,000 young individuals have been reported as missing, their families left to grapple with the uncertainty of their fates. These statistics serve as a stark reminder of the real and present dangers that permeate their lives. Furthermore, approximately 150 children have taken their own lives in moments of desperation and confusion, often driven by the overwhelming emotional weight of abandonment and the daunting task of adapting to a new and unfamiliar environment. The mental health consequences of such trauma can be profound, leaving these young souls to navigate feelings of hopelessness and despair without the proper support. In light of these challenges, our initiative recognizes the urgent need for change and the creation of a nurturing environment where these children can not only survive but thrive.
By constructing a dedicated learning center, we aim to provide a safe haven where children can develop critical life skills, learn to foster their creativity, and gain the knowledge essential for overcoming the many obstacles they face. This center will be more than just a physical building; it will symbolize hope and a brighter future—an accessible refuge for those desperately seeking guidance and stability. We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to the suffering these children endure daily. The staggering statistics serve as a call to action, compelling us to step forward and take responsibility for the well-being of our youth.
